CAMPUS PLACEMENTS- Just a step away!

I’m here to share few of the experiences I came across during the placement processes in our organisation.

Once, during a placement process I met one of our students who was very shy, and introvert, but at the same time very talented. Whenever there were placement drives, though he was always there, he would come to me in despair and would say he was not prepared for the interview. Then he started making it an excuse everytime.

I decided to talk to him personally and got to know that it was lack of confidence towards communication that made him scared all the time. I asked him to introduce himself assuming that I’m a recruiter. Since I’m a familiar face to him, he didn’t have any hesitation to talk to me and I could understand that it’s not fear but hesitation which stopped him. I tried explaining him his real issues and from that time onwards he started attending all the interviews. One day he came late for an inteview. And when I got to know that he really wanted to attend it despite of the fact that he was not well, it made me happy and proud. Surprisingly, he got placed in the same interview with the package of 9 LPA which was the highest package of that drive.

It was during the same placement process that I came across another student who was confident enough with a good communication skill set, good grades and good sense of grooming. Though being such a talented student he was getting rejected every time. One day that student came to me and said that he started losing interest and confidence. When I enquired, he was having a concern that all his friends were receiving offers and also students who had lower grades than him were getting placed. Now because of this he was losing confidence even to attend the interviews. I made him aware that sometimes we face lot of personal issues because of which we lose our focus. In his case also issue was the same, and he was unable to make decisions wherein every time he went blank. He agreed to my point, realized why he was facing rejections and was actually ready to work on it in a positive way. Finally, I was happy to see my student getting placed with a package of 6LPA in a reputed company.

Whenever you hear about an interview, it is quite natural that one may get a bit nervous. Good communication skills, good academic background are not the only criteria to get placed. But let me tell you it is not always the fear or lack of confidence, sometimes it is the hesitation that you have from within. I would also like to add a piece of advice for all my dear students that, do take a small step to seek proper guidance from a mentor who can help and motivate you to overcome the obstacles in your way of success. That small step can make a huge impact towards your career.

Wish you all the best.
